It was midday afternoon and the sky’s color was a orange red, which was perfect for a day like today. The smell of blood loomed in the air like a haunting shadow and it was so intense that you could practically taste it. I was crying hysterically while my brother put his arms around me while hushing me to be quiet.
Today, my kin was attacked by an army of demons. They came without warning and they started by attacking out livestock. After that, they came in and killed the people in my village and eating their remains. Just the memory of it wanted to make me scream and when I tried to my brother hushed me immediately.
Our parents were two of the many who perished. Seconds after we heard the screams of the townspeople who were being eaten a ferocious demon with saliva oozing out of its mouth came busting through our door. Our father fended it off for just a few seconds but was killed and as we were running towards the barn we saw it savagely devour his innards. The very sight of it made me want to faint and horrified me to the core.
As we progressed to the barn my mom kept me and my brother close. Demons were unaware of our presence because they were enjoying their spoils of human flesh. Blood was oozing out of every one of their mouths. The very sight of it made me sick as well as the smell.
My mom hid us underneath the floor boards of the barn and quickly ran out so the demons wouldn’t have notice she gone in there.  Me and my brother watched helplessly as they slowly tore off her head and discarded it. The demon then devoured her while smiling through its blood stained teeth.
Remembering this made me cry more loudly. My brother held me closer to him while whispering quietly “Hush, Lilia, hush. Please be quiet a while longer. They’re almost gone.”
“But I can’t, Daniel.” I cried back. “I just can’t.”
Daniel held me close to him to the point I could feel his cheek on my forehead. His warmth calmed me down a little and I finally stopped crying but the fear wasn’t gone.  I looked up at him and he had a warm smile on his that convinced me everything was going to be okay.
He slowly brushed away my tears as he said softly “It’s all going to be okay Lilia. Just please be silent for now so we can make it out of here. You don’t want our parents efforts go wasted do you?”
I slowly nodded my head no and as I did something came busting through the barn doors. This sent my heart racing and I held on to Daniel more tightly. He did the same.
The thing that came through the door immediately walked over to the spot we were hiding and stomped his feet at the spot we were. At that point I knew we were found.
